Don't waste your time, it's nothing but a money grab. They already have their team picked. Local players may as well stay home, its all imports.

Don't know much about jr. b hockey or the St. Catharines Falcons but I do know they tried going with local talent a few years ago and they won something like six games all year. So now you're saying they are bringing in imports, well all I can say to that is good for them and good luck in the up-coming year.

What's wrong with imports? Niagara Falls has been doing it for years and Thorold has been doing it for the last 5 or 6 years and these are the only two teams in the Golden Horseshoe that have won Sutherland Cups in recent years.

a good team uses local players but also brings in some GOOD IMPORTS. some of the imports teams have brought in are good but others are no better than other local players.the local team in turn loses good young players because of marginal imports. the young up and comer signs for another team and does well. his rights stay with the team that gave him a chance. kusy in fort erie is a good example. he has another three years at least.

I know that we heard this before, but, it is the truth if St. Catharines knew how to keep their locals they would have had a great team. All you have to do is look around the league and you will see how many St. Catharines born players there are.
So, as far as I am concerned I feel bad for all the young boys who go with heart to try out for this team and do not have a chance.
In my opinion get rid of the coach and get someone that will be honest with the players.

My friend, you are ill informed. The reason they brought in their current coach was to have someone who would be honest and not play the games that were played in the past.He calls a spade a spade. If you are local and have the talent you will play, if not you are told so. I'm sure if he had been with the Falcons for the last 5 years some of the good local kids that are playing on other teams would still be in St. Catharines. No need to cry over what has happened in the past, just sit back and watch what he does this year and next.

I think Kusy is a great example of why there are so many St. Catharines kids playing for other teams in the league. Kusy couldn't make the Falcons as a 16 year old. If he made the team as a 17 year old, it would be as a fourth line player. He would get more playing time as an 18 year old and probably be a go-to guy when he was 19. But guys like Kusy want to play in the league quicker so they go to teams like Fort Erie that can wait for these guys to develop on their clock. When they finally develop into a useful player, people point to him and say they should never have let him go. But teams like the Falcons, Thorold and Niagara Falls only have so many of these spots. Last year the Falcons invested in forwards Potter, Kilcar and Moes from St. Catharines. The Falcons believed these three kids to be better.

A lot of draft picks don't play junior hockey because of their young age. In fact, in a few years there won't be any 15 or 16 year olds playing junior B hockey since the Canadian Hockey Association has decided that 15 and 16 is too young for Jr. B and has banned them from Junior hockey.

People who laugh out loud should think before they speak. As a matter of fact, it's considered an accomplishment to make it to a AAA level in Midget, after playing B hockey all a kid's life.
Coach's should be commended for bringing kids to this level. Give credit where it's due to the High School Coach's who coached Miller and give Miller credit for making it to that level.
For those of us who follow minor hockey in St. Catharines, we consider it more of a story in our local area when one of our local kids make it to the top and believe it to be an accomplishment for someone who was "off the radar" to show up and compete for a spot.
You don't have to play AAA all your life to be a good hockey player. Let's hope that more local kids like Miller are given a chance to keep local roots in our Jr B system in Niagara.

AAA in St. Catharines is a joke. Most cases poor coaching. Too many kids make the team because dad coaches. How many AAA St. Catharines teams played over 500 hockey last year. The only one I can think of is the major midgets. I think there was one other team that did, but I'm not sure. For those who don't know the major midgets were not run by St. Cath. Minor Hockey.
This city used to be a power house for minor hockey, what happened ??

Your right, the Major Midget AAA team alsy year was run by the Falcon's, but that group was mostly all 87's taht were developed through St, Catharines Minor hockey. The 87's were always generally well coached over the years at both the AAA & AA levels and always did fairly well (above 500). So, the Falcon's can't take credit for the many years of prior development! Let's see how they do with this year's midget team.
As for Niagara Falls AAA, I wouldn't say anything too bad about them. Many of their teams were much higher in the point standings than St. Catharines according to last year's OMHA stats.
SHOE FAN

TAKE A LOOK AT THE OHA WEBSITE AND LOOK AT THE "SHOE" STATS. ST. CATHARINES
PLAYED 13 ST. CATHARINES OR ST.CATHARINES MINOR HOCKEY PLAYERS ON A REGULAR BASIS OR 22 PLAYERS FROM ST.CATHARINES PLAYED IN CALL UP SITUATIONS.
I THINK ACCORDING TO THE OTHER TEAM'S STATS ST. CATHARINES IS THE LEADER IN THE LOCAL PLAYER DEPARTMENT.
THEIR COACH SAID THEY WILL CONTINUE TO TRY AND USE AS MUCH LOCAL TALENT AS POSSIBLE.
HE IS DREAMING IF HE THINKS YOU CAN WIN AT THIS LEVEL WITH JUST LOCAL TALENT.

Hey Anonomyous ? Why are you so quick to criticize everything that isn't Thorold.
If ST. Kitts wants to use as many locals as possible, what's wrong with that?
Like the Shoe fan said it is hard to win without imports.
If players are good enough and work hard they will play on any team in the Golden Horseshoe.
Every team wants as many locals as possible, which generally means higher attendance and lower expenses.
Now anonomyous, maybe it is time to be more of an objective fan and less of an agent for for the St. Kitts locals or better yet maybe you could represent all the locals in the GHL. Come to think of it that would not work either cause you would have to understand the game and probably have to quit sounding like a disgruntled parent.

If anyone got screwed by this 89 ruling it was Passero from Fort Erie. Now he can only sign two 16 year olds instead of the usal four or five. Now he can only sign two Americans instead of four or five. So where is he going to get his players from. He will probably skim a Nedilsky from St. Catharines as one of his two 89's, but Nedilsky is atleast two years away from being a quality Junior B player. He will have to use Fort Erie Single A Wildcats to round out his team. Before Tony was able to select enough 16 year olds and Americans that he could watch them develop for a couple of years and take a run. Much similar to the team he had last year at the beginning before they imploded. Now things just could get ugly for this team and they may never be able to dig out of the hole.

A good example of a player who played minor hockey "A" for Thorold all his younger years is Fraser Smith from Thorold. Many of the "A" centres develop hockey players just as good and even better than "AAA". The point being, you don't have to play AAA in many centres to be just as good of a hockey player. Fraser is going on to play Tier 2 Jr. A this year. Good Luck Fraser!

How can you even be debating about a vs aaa. there is no comparison when you stay in your own geographical area. are there some single a teams in toronto better than some aaa teams here, probably. but not in the same area. besides single a at a young age is very good if not better than aaa for development purposes. when you get to bantam and above you have to play at the best level possible. fraser smith was developed in thorold and thorold did a good job. his high school coach has to be put into this equation also. he played single a and high school and high school is alot better than single a.

Who thinks playing midget aaa is an sccomplishment? St.Kitts is falling into the same level of aaa as niagara falls and thats not good.

Now things just could get ugly for this team and they may never be able to dig out of the hole.

not all high schools have good hockey programs but some do. the denis morris coach is a former pro who knows more about the game than most coaches. runs an excellent program and better prepares players to move on than most minor hockey coaches.

Why would Passero take Nedilsky from St. Catharines? Let the kid play Midget where he will develop. There are other good 89's right in Fort Erie's back yard.

These 16 year olds played single A hockey. Atleast Nedilsky has some AAA experience.

passero couldn't put a half decent team together if his life depended on it, they'll be the same thing this year as they were last year and be a joke year after year, because passero's genius hockey mind always seems to recruit great teams, lol i dunno maybe thats just my opinion.

Single A in Mississauga Is better then AAA in St Catharines Niagara Falls ...There should only be two teams in Niagara at AAA then they would compete..St Catharines and Stoney Creek combine and Welland and Niagara falls combine

(no login) A vs. AAA August 5 2005, 11:12 PM

The last post does make sence just because you are signed by a tier 2 team does not make you better then a b team player.Thats if you use your logic when comparing AAA to A HOCKEY.
