On March 17, Councillor Burch will present his motion to city council asking for the city to undertake a study on the prospect of building a 5000 seat sports and entertainment centre. The study will look at potential economic spinoffs of a new facility as well as potential locations and financing options. A yes vote by council will indicate that the city is serious about building a new home for the IceDogs. I hope everyone will take a few moments to e-mail or call their councillors and encourage them to vote in favour of the sports and entertainment facility study.
Here are the councillors e-mail addresses:

Even though this date does not appear on any icedog schedule, it is there most important event. I will take the time to e-mail my aldermen tomorrow and I hope everyone else does the same.

I really believe the city will build a new arena if enough people show their support. I sent in my e-mail this morning and I have already got a nice reply from one of them.

The motion was passed by council tonight. All of the councillors who spoke said that they want to see a new arena built at some point in the near feature. The fact that the Jack Gatecliff Arena will soon need to be demolished was also addressed.

Certainly good news! It's not built yet, but a baby step in the right direction.

If a large corporate partner is found this arena is as good as built. St. Catharines has always been known as one of the doughnut capitals of Canada. Tim Horton's is big into supporting hockey, and Tim Horton's already has their name on a four pad in Moncton NB, another one of the doughnut capitals of Canada.
Hopefully, privately, the city has already been talking to these guys about a partnership. Exclusive concession rights, naming rights, right arms, whatever it takes to get a large corporation like that on board has to be done.
Imagine the 2011 season opening up in a nice new shiny Tim Horton's Centre. Maybe, just maybe the politicans of this city have finally figured it out.

Someone should inform the M.P for St; Catharines that the Ice Dogs are billed to be a Niagara Region team, judging by the interview that He gave last night before the game as far as He is concerned just because they have Niagara in front of their name it is not necessarily so ,His words I believe were this is a St; Catharines team. With everyone involved with the team trying so hard to promote this team in a way that the whole Region will support it , His remark was a bit damaging.
