St. Catharines Mayor Brian McMullan was on CKTB Monday evening talking about a new multi use spectator arena. Here are some of the highlights of what he said:
-The city starting working on a new arena a couple of months ago -They are looking at arenas in Ste. Sault Marie, Peterborough and Oshawa to see what would work best for St. Catharines -The arena would have a seating capacity of between 4000-5000 -It would cost $35-$40 million -The money to build the facility would come from taxpayers, federal and provincial government as well as private money -He would love to see a shovel in the ground this term (which ends Nov 2010) but at the very least would like a final decision by the end of this term

Peterborough has a renovated arena and not a new arena. Does that mean they are looking at renovating the Gatecliff rink?

I also heard McMullan on the radio. I am not sure if he was talking about the renovations or simply how they financed the cost.
