It has been very interesting watching the Standard Sports section suddenly starting to write more features and give better reporting on the Icedogs since we started the thread about their laissez-faire attitude. In the newspaper game, editorial can do whatever they want unless the readers start complaining and then the higher-ups get worried. The Standard is in a dogfight with Metroland to keep its circulation. They can't be seen as a bunch of fat cats doing a sub-par job. I was talking with a reporter from the Standard and he said it is about time these guys were given the word. Let's not let them off the hook.

Yes, I have also noticed an improvement in the coverage. Hopefully it continues. I would still like to see articles before each home game that sets-up the game. It could also include players to watch on both sides, such as local players, drafted players and players on a point streak as well as who is injured and will not be playing.

The Review which is an Osprey media had a big spread on the front page I believe on Monday and then in the sports section on the Ice Dogs , very impressive maybe the Standard should take notice even though they are the same company the Dogs are in Standard Country? ??.

Check out the Sudbury Star Newspaper. In the last 22 hours, 6 articles have been posted about the Wolves:
-Dahm deal done; Wolves trade goalie to Niagara for two players, two picks
-Valiquette to start tonight for Wolves; Howard, VanLaren will also play
-Morning Blog: In the wake of the Baker deal; Is Dahm going to go, who's captain?
-Bye-bye Baker; Wolves send captain to Oshawa for two 17 year olds
-Wolves collect eggs for 2009, 2010
-Wolves send Baker marching to Generals
I'm not sure how many of these articles are posted on the website and printed in the paper, but I would assume all of them are also printed in the paper, with the exception of maybe the blogs. Speaking of blogs, how come most newspapers have a blog about their OHL team and we don't have any?
I think the coverage in the Standard has improved, but still has some ways to go before it is on par with other papers.

It could also include players to watch on both sides, such as local players, drafted players and players on a point streak as well as who is injured and will not be playing. I think someone is listening. From todays Standard: IceDogs this week A quick look at action for the Niagara IceDogs this week. Friday: At Sault Ste. Marie. The Greyhounds are in first place in the West Division of the Western Conference with a 27-10-1-2 mark and second overall in the league to the Kitchener Rangers. The IceDogs have not played the Greyhounds this season. The Greyhounds, coached by Team Canada coach Craig Hartsburg, feature leading scorer Dustin Jeffrey, a pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins, and Wayne Simmonds, a second-round pick of the Los Angeles Kings. Goaltender Kyle Gajewski is having a strong season with a 2.42 GAA and .914 save percentage. Saturday: At Sudbury. The Wolves sit in last place in the Central Division with a 10-27-1-2 mark. Niagara has defeated the Wolves 7-4 and 5-2 in Sudbury while losing 4-3 at home. The game will feature former Wolves' goaltender Sebastian Dahm likely playing against his former team. Dahm was picked up from Sudbury Wednesday for Andrew Loverock and Chris VanLaren. The Wolves are coached by former NHL winger Mike Foligno. The IceDogs return home Jan. 17 against the Greyhounds. I hope they continue this feature. Well done Standard.
