Team OHL to be announced Tuesday

The Ontario Hockey League will be hosting a press conference on
Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium.

The purpose of the press conference is to announce the Team OHL rosters and coaching staff that will compete in the 2007 ADT Canada-Russia Challenge on Thursday, November 22 in Kitchener and on Monday, November 26 in Sudbury.

I think its a given that Pietrangelo will be selected. Legein also has an outside chance. I remember watching the games last year on SportsNet. Although it was entertaining, I believe the Canadian Teams (Team QMJHL, Team OHL and Team WHL) dominated most games. Does anyone know if the players selected will miss regular games for their OHL team like the players selected for the World Jr Championship.

I tend to agree with Pietrangelo as he is one of the leading points getter as a defensemen but I'm pretty sure Legein would get in as well, partly on his play this year, but also based on his name and reputation: solid year last year AND being on this year's Under 20 Canada Team competing against the Russians in the Summit Series where he performed well.

You would think that Caputi might get a serious look since he's currently tied for 8th in points in the O.

I would have liked to have seen more (if any) of Corrente this year to be able to venture an educated opinion, as others seem to have a healthy opinion of him. Oh well...

I think Petro and Legein are in. Personally I would rate Caputi higher than Legein so I also think Caputi should be named as well. Others who I think should be given consideration are Corrente, but he has not played that many games this year and Josh Day as he is in the top 5 of +/- but because he is not a flashy type player, he will probably be overlooked.

I believe the 2 Russia-OHL games are on nights when no other OHL teams play so players will probably not miss any games with their OHL club.

OHL Announces Rosters and Coaching Staff for 2007 ADT Canada-Russia Challenge

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced the Team OHL Rosters and coaching staff that will compete in the 2007 ADT Canada-Russia Challenge.

The fifth annual ADT Canada-Russia Challenge will be held from November 19th to 29th throughout Canada as Canadian Hockey League All-Star Teams, from each of its three member leagues (OHL, WHL and QMJHL) compete against a Russian National Junior Team in a six game series.

Team OHL was selected by a management team consisting of Alan Miller, General Manager of the Sarnia Sting, Jeff Twohey, General Manager of the Peterborough Petes and Al Murray, Hockey Canada’s Head Scout for the Canadian National Junior Team. Players will be evaluated during this series in preparation of the final selection process for the 2008 World Junior Hockey Championships.

The two OHL games will be hosted by the Kitchener Rangers on Thursday, November 22nd and the Sudbury Wolves on Monday, November 26th. The Team OHL rosters will consist of 22 players - two goalies, seven defencemen, and 13 forwards. Trevor Cann (Peterborough Petes) and Steve Mason (London Knights) will share the goaltending duties for both Ontario based games. Drew Doughty (Guelph Storm) who was a member of Team Canada during the Super Series will help lead the defence core for Team OHL. Doughty is considered to be one of the top prospects for the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. John Tavares, 2007 CHL Player of the Year and member of Team Canada at the Super Series, will guide a star-studded cast of forwards including fellow Team Canada teammates Stefan Legein, Cory Emmerton and Josh Godfrey.

The OHL also announced today that Craig Hartsburg, Head Coach of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds will serve as Head Coach for Team OHL. Peter DeBoer, General Manager and Head Coach of the Kitchener Rangers and Mike Foligno, General Manager and Head Coach of the Sudbury Wolves, will serve as Assistant Coaches for Team OHL, in their respective home centres.
