Can they have a reporter at least pretend he's interested in what's going on. Why isn't Corrente playing? Why would you trade a 36 goal scorer for a 6th round pick? Why was Beljo sent home in the first place? Would it kill them to actually ask a few questions?

Yeah, good one. The Standard is a far cry from the Toronto papers, isn't it? They would have been all over those news bits.

Why was Beljo sent home in the first place? Would it kill them to actually ask a few questions? Yes, I would have liked to read more about why they traded him for a 6th round pick as well. However, the story about why Beljo was sent home was in the paper a few weeks ago: While DeSousa gets a chance to earn his OHL stripes, Beljo, a 36-goal scorer for the IceDogs last season, remains at home in Sudbury waiting for a trade. "It's a difference in the way him and I see eye to eye," Brown said. "What he wants and what I want, it's just not going to work." The general manager says Beljo is pressing to get a trade done but he's not in any hurry. "It's one of those things where we have to stick to our guns. It's getting the standards of what we can expect from our players and everything else. If something right comes along, we'll definitely make the move," he said. Also according to the game report from the Standard on Oct 12: Alex Friesen (leg) and Matt Corrente (wrist) were also scratches for Niagara.

Yes, I read that stuff as well. You'd think a d-man the caliber of Corrente would be a little bigger story then out wrist. How long is he out for? What was the issue with Beljo? Telling us they don't see eye to eye is the glossed over version. What's the real issue? This team needs the Standard a lot more than the Standard needs the Dogs, you'd think getting some decent information out of them would be fairly simple. Friessen looked fine the whole preseason, then was listed as injured for the first 8 games only to be inserted back in the lineup one day after their biggest stinker of the year. Very little was ever written about this.

Leading scorer of the league misses a game, all we get is Legein elbow.
Maybe the first overall pick in the NHL draft is in town today. Was there any mention of this?

Its too bad the Standard couldn't have an article the day before a game to introduce all the visiting teams top prospects. Unless you really follow the OHL, you have no idea who the players are on the visiting team.
