Why does the mascot have that controversial number on his back?

The word I received out of the office is that it should be read as: nine - one - one and not nine-eleven. The purpose of this is to coincide with an in-school children's program that educates children on calling 9-1-1 when there is an emergency. Bones will be visiting area schools throughout the season spreading the 9-1-1 word. In no way is this number suppose to be confrontational or to show any disrespect to the families and friends of the 9-eleven disaster.

Thanks puckbunnydeluxe, I knew there was a good explanation for it but nobody sitting around us at the rink had any idea of what it was for. They might want to alter the sweater a bit by putting a dash between the numbers so it looks like the phone number and not the other meaning.
