For those who don't know, the Ice Dogs new dressing room will be where the visiting teams presently dress. Since their bench will on that side of the arena, that means that the penalty box will be right beside the visitor's bench. From a coaching and hockey point of view, this is a "brutal" decision. Over the course of a year, it will cost them a few games!! I'm sure that the person who made this decision "is not a hockey person." (but then again, the person who is making all the decisions doesn't have any experience running a hockey team at this level).

puckbunny, does it make sense to be moving equipment in and out every weekend? Because that's what the Dogs would have to do. You can't expand that side of the arena even with renovations and the Falcons aren't moving from their room. That leaves the other side of the building. As for costing them "a few games", I doubt it will cost them more then a couple goals all season. Having the box beside your bench isn't that much of an advantage. If it was the OHL would force everyone have the box on the opposite side of both benches. The biggest reason for that change (having benches on the same side) in the NHL was for television not for any on ice advantage.

The Ottawa 67's have the same setup. Their bench is on the opposite side of the ice from the penalty box while the opposition bench is right beside the penalty box.

puckbunny...you are making a big deal out of nothing. The Black Hawks and Fincups used the very same bench you speak of when they were here and no one minded then. Your post sounds mostly bitter. What's up?

What are you from Niagara Falls and just mad that the Icedogs came to St.Kitts and not the Falls? Who cares!!!!The only thing that matters is that Niagara has OHL hockey! What stupid parochial comment! I would like to think that the Icedogs came to Niagara for all of Niagara to enjoy! Remember that playing out of St Catharines may be temporary as a new facility, if and when decided, the location may be NOTL (my choice), Welland, Thorold and yes even NF. My bet is they will end up with a new NOTL facility within 5 years! NF Council made a stupid short-sighted decision when they rejected the Capital Sports, JDS and more recently Burke proposals and made it clear that they are not interested in supporting an OHL facility using tax payers money. (a decision I hope they end up regretting) I'm from NF and personally, I have committed to two season tickets and whatever city they play out of, short term or long term, I'm intending to enjoy the experience.
