Friday night game cancelled due to lack of 3rd official. Black Hawks refuse to play. Can't say I blame them, the games between these two teams are pretty intense and could get out of hand. Is it the responsibility of the home team to make sure there are Refs at an exhibition game. If so the Canucks screwed up and lost about 400 fans worth of gate receipts.

A game which had been sceduled for some 4 weeks, all of a sudden has no officials, Quattrana was the only OHA approved official, the other guy was wearing a striped shirt, but could hardly skate. Not sure what the canucks were up to, but the guy at the gate was leary of giving $$ refunds and instead gave passes which would get you into any regular season canucks game, ya right!!!! the interesting thing, why did they already have these passes in the press box??? and, did the canucks think thorold would be crazy enough to play a game with the three stooges refereeing??? either the canucks tried to pull a fast one, or the GHL is so unorganized, this year will be full of guffas

Gotta give kudos to coach Pat for not putting the kids on the ice without proper officials - insurance reasons being considered. This has not been a friendly series with NF starting with the FE tourney. Better be safe than sorry.

What do you think it is Pat, a dance floor?

ru serious pat is extremely smart for that... not putting the klids on the ice, they were over sn hour late due to reff problems and plus he is smart enough tot take into consideration the fact that it was three nobodys calling the game with probably soe calls with suspensions or even injuries going agasinst them...we all know because the flls have some meat sauses trhat love torun goalies and players from behind

It is the responsibility of the home team (NF) to call the OHA office to book a referee for an exhibition game. The call is a 30 second phone call.
Someone in NF did not make the call. Someone screwed up royally. Mistakes happen, but this is a rather large one and unacceptable to fans and both teams.
There is no way, under any circumstances, can that game be played without OHA senior level trained officials. Both teams would be fined substantially by the OHA as well as open their players to potential injury risks and future potential lawsuits.
If (and I doubt this was the case) the Falls were pushing to play the game without 3 OHA senior officials, then they are stupid and just trying to cover up for their incompetence in not making that 30 second phone call to book refs. It's too bad and sad if that was actually what happened (and again I doubt this was the case).
And if Thorold refused to play, despite NF's insistence, it was absolutely the right decision and really a no brainer of a decision. Thorold is a classy organization. They did not want to disappoint the fans, but they really wouldn't have had a choice.
Losing this last scheduled exhibition game would be a major loss to Thorold in making their final evaluations. They must be furious and livid. But Masterson has been known to use such tactics in the past to stir up the pot a little. He will have to reach far into his bag of tricks to beat Thorold. Thorold beat NF in their last two exhibition games and losing a third staright, even before the season starts, I'm sure would not have been good for the Canucks organization.
If fans are upset they really should be questioning the Falls management. They screwed up.

I can't believe the fans are so upset, isn't this a kid's game. Safety should be the first concern. I for one am glad my kid came home unhurt and not suspended for a game or two. Whoever was pressuring Pat for sending the kids out even for warm ups should have know that one linesman was not even carded for JR B games. Whoever called him in had to know this. As far as being afraid of NF, I think this series is still on going from last years playoff sweep, perhaps the year before that too and the FE tournament and the last exhibition game. Need I go on. These kids wanted to play under the proper conditions. Way to go Pat. You're on the right track. I'm sure Timmins would have stood his ground too after all it's all about the kids-not the fans.

Your right. Someone in the Canucks office screwed up, be it the general manager or just the office clerk forgetting to call it in. I'm sure they will make adjustments so this won't happen again. Embarrassing to have a Friday night crowd to come out and then send them away. This is not the way to win new fans over. And for all you fans who propose this was contrived or pre-planned, your the ones who watch WWE and believe it is real.

We never had this problem when Morley was looking after the officials. He followed the GHL closely and probably would have picked up on the screw up. He would have showed up himself for a pre season skate.

Who is in charge in the assignments of officials for the b loop ? The home team is to call the OHA and inform their refereeing schedular of the game. Obviously this did not happen. The OHA just dosen't miss assignements. Someone in the Canucks office oversighted this game. Blackhawks did the right thing!

I'm sure what happened in the Falls on Friday night was an oversight by the Canucks. I'm also sure the Canucks are not happy with what happened either. The Hawks did the right thing, so lets move on .
